Best Places to Sell Your Go-Kart

It should come as no surprise that selling a go-kart is more challenging than buying one. When you’re buying a go-kart, you’ve already set your mind to it and there are plenty of options on the market.

However, when you’re selling your go-kart, you’ll need to find a suitable buyer, which typically means that you will need to advertise it on several places and platforms.

I’ve sold some of my go-karts in the past and from my personal experience, the best places to sell your go-kart are on online marketplaces, classified ads, local karting communities, online forums, and even at garage sales.

In this article, I’ll share the best places to sell your go-kart and what to look out for. I will also make sure to share some advantages and disadvantages with you!

Classified Ads & Online Marketplaces

Most used go-karts get sold through classified ads or online marketplaces, as they offer a convenient way to list your go-kart and allow you to easily communicate with your potential buyer.

Some of the most popular online marketplaces and classified advertisement websites are OfferUp, eBay, Craigslist, and Facebook Marketplace. These platforms allow you to list your go-kart and include images, listing prices, descriptions, and the location.

Another reason why online marketplaces and classified ads are commonly used to sell used go-kart is because buyers can take confidence in your reviews and ratings (assuming that you have a good reputation) and also get buyer protection, making them more likely to make a purchase.

When selling on these platforms, ensure that you understand the terms and conditions, as well as your obligations as a seller. Sites like eBay offer buyer protection, so ensure that your listing accurately reflects the condition of your go-kart.

In summary, here are some of the best online marketplaces to sell your go-kart on:

  • Facebook Marketplace
  • eBay
  • OfferUp
  • Craigslist

Local Community

If you’re a member of any local karting association or a local karting community, you’ll be able to advertise your go-kart on any boards, through word of mouth, during events, and other means.

Selling your go-kart within your local community has many benefits. For one, you won’t have to deliver your go-kart to a remote place and the buyer doesn’t have to travel long distances to collect it. This is because most karting associations and communities are located within a specific locale (typically a city, county, or state).

The potential buyer is also able to physically inspect and test your go-kart on a race track before committing to the purchase and you’re able to validate his or her credentials if they are a member of the community or a karting association.

Secondly, go-kart racers within the same community tend to know each other more and trust doesn’t take as long to be established. You’ll most likely know a mutual friend who is able to vouch for you (or for the potential buyer if you decide to offer payment terms).

Online Forums

Online forums are also a very popular place to sell your go-kart. While primarily used to discuss go-kart-related topics, these forums typically have a section called “Marketplace” or “Buy/Sell Go-Karts”, where you’re able to buy and sell go-karts.

One advantage of using forums to sell your go-karts is the extended reach. You’re able to advertise your listing to a larger audience that goes beyond your locale. This ultimately means that you’ll be more likely to find a buyer faster.

However, it’s important to note that you’ll need to qualify your potential buyer first. Since they may be outside of your local community, you will most likely not have any mutual friends or connections with him or her.

Reputation on online forums can be quite tricky to gauge. Some forums have a reputation counter and some people even gauge it through their contribution or by the number of posts. While they may be able to give a rough indication, it’s important to separately validate their authenticity before selling your go-kart to someone online.

Moreover, the potential buyer may need to make their way down to you to inspect your go-kart and to pick it up. They may factor these costs into their budget and try to negotiate it down further.

Garage Sales

While garage sales are not as common as they used to be, you’ll still be able to sell just about anything, including your go-kart. The main challenge with garage sales is that it may be considerably harder to find a buyer, unless you advertise for it in advance.

While go-karting has gained in popularity over the years, it’s still growing motorsport that not everyone may have interest in. Remember that we’re talking about racing with your own go-karts (not indoor karting, which is more commercialized).

Due to the lack of buyers, you may need to sell your go-kart for lower than intended. Therefore, I would personally only recommend selling your go-kart at a garage sale if you need to get rid of it quickly and have no other choice, or if you advertise it separately.

Karting Races

What better place to sell your go-kart than at a racing event that’s all about go-karts? Whether it’s at national or international races, hundreds or even thousands of people attend to see the fastest go-karts in action.

Prospecting and experienced go-kart racers will always be on the lookout for good deals. Many of these races have online bulletins and forums, where you’ll be able to advertise that your go-kart is for sale in advance.

You will also be able to bring your go-kart to the race and display it for sale. Moreover, you have an even better selling proposition if you’re taking part in the race. What better way to advertise your go-kart than finishing in the top 3?

Racing Events

Although your target market will be considerably smaller, there will be some go-kart enthusiasts at other types of motor racing events. While it may not be worth bringing your go-kart along, there’s no reason not to advertise that you have a go-kart for sale when striking a conversation with someone and the topic of go-karts come up.

Distributors

While distributors typically sell go-karts from different brands, some also have a used section. Distributors will either purchase it from you directly to resell or take a commission from the sale if they have found an interested buyer.

Before you decide to take this route, it’s important to understand the terms and conditions imposed by the distributor.
